Day 41

I was in a hurry and quickly snapped a few pictures of the piano. This depth of field is a little too shallow for what I wanted but I didn't have time to go back and do it again. Some days you get what you can.

Day 40

Today I spent time working on this still life. Sam suggested the angle and I quite like it. I'm getting used to a new lens that I recently got. It's a 50 mm prime lens with a 1.8 aperture. It's amazing how narrow the depth of field can be with that large of an aperture. I'm quite excited about using it. Anyway, I hope you like it.

Day 39

Tonight I went out to Farmington Bay bird refuge and took some photos. I played with the color of the sky in the second. I'm still deciding if I like the color.

Day 38

I have driven past this flag and wanted to do something with it but was waiting for the weather to clear up and the light to be better. Today conditions were just about right.

Day 37

Saturday we had gone outside to shovel the walks and I was looking down the street at the footprints in the snow and the repeating pattern of the trees. It didn't turn out quite the way I wanted but this is what I got.

Day 36

Okay, so I've gotten a little behind. I didn't actually get a photo taken for Friday so here is a photo from another day that didn't make it in before. I was trying to get a picture of some birds that were flying around in our trees in the back yard. This one was probably the best.

Day 35

Tonight I thought it would be fun to play around with some photos of Sam's eye of the storm. You know, one of those globe like things with electrical lights that are drawn to your hand when you touch it. Anyway, it was a lot of fun and here are a couple of the images I got.

Day 34

This was an exercise in shallow depth of field and getting the focus where I wanted it to be. I was moderately successful. This was all done with manual focus so not too bad I guess.

Day 33

Another night and I didn't have a photo so I was looking around the house trying to find something to photograph. Sam grabbed this rack of craft scissors and told me to take a picture of that. So here you go. Sorry I'm not very creative but this is helping me work more on exposure and playing some more with depth of field.

Day 32

I've been a little behind on posting pictures. We've had some internet connection problems but it appears to be working okay today. So here is an attempt at a landscape. I'm posting one in color and one in black and white. Let me know what you think.

Day 31

I was largely uninspired Sunday night and so I just grabbed this peacock feather and snapped a few pictures. Yes, sometimes the thought of 365 days seems like a daunting task indeed.

Day 30

My little girl turned four today. I've been wanting to see if I could do a portrait with candlelight so this was the perfect opportunity. I had to bump up the ISO quite a bit so the picture is a bit grainy but I really like the way it turned out.

Day 29

I was trying some things out with depth of field and playing with different apertures. I'm trying to do everything in manual to really understand exposure. I think this turned out pretty well considering it was about 11:00 at night and I was very tired.

Day 28

These are some pictures that we took at the rail trail in West Kaysville. It was a little foggy and cold but we had a good time. So much so that the girls didn't want to leave. I'll post some of the other pictures that we took on our family blog because Sam took a bunch of them that turned out so cute.

Day 27

This was another quick shot since I haven't had a lot of time lately. I'm kind of pleased with this one just because I was able to clone out the corner of another leaf from the photo. I am slowly learning how to use photoshop.

Day 26

Ahh!! I'm falling behind. I haven't had a lot of time in the last few days to I've snapped of a few quick images. This one didn't quite turn out the way I had imagined and I'm not especially thrilled with it.

Day 25

Today I decided the girls and I really needed to get out of the house and go for a little walk. Sarah has been wanting to try out her new scooter and I thought it would be a good opportunity to see what kind of pictures I could get. Here is one of a little treasure we found along the way.

Day 24

So, Sunday night at about 11:30 P.M. I realized that I had not even thought about pulling my camera out and taking a picture. So, I will not have a perfect record with my 365 project, but I'm okay with that. Just for fun, here is an image that I took on Saturday so that I at least have 365 photos, even if they weren't taken on exactly the right day.

Day 23

I have to say that I'm pretty excited about this particular image. This one will probably end framed and hung on our wall. Sarah got sick of me snapping pictures of her but I think this one was well worth it. We were playing around by our big front window and I just loved the light on her face. The catchlights in her eyes is something that I've been working on. I changed this to black and white and I really love the way it turned out.

Day 22

This evening I dragged the girls out and we drove to West Layton and took some pictures of the sunset. The girls were real troopers being stuck in the car for as long as they were. I would get out, take some pictures, get back in and warm up. After a little while we moved to a second spot and it is true what they say that a silhouette in the frame makes a sunset picture more interesting. I liked these the best. I hope you enjoy them too.

Day 21

I'm still trying to find a good way to take pictures and isolate them on a white background. Tonight I tried using a small lightbox that I have so that it would help eliminate shadows. It got rid of the shadows but the background is not completely white. I'm sure there is a way to fix this in Photoshop but I don't know how to do that yet but I will figure it out soon. Until then, this is what I got.

Day 20

Well, the first picture is an example of why it is easier for me to get pictures of my kids when they are sleeping. But, with a little extra coercing and the bribery of a white stuffed bear, I managed to get a couple cute shots.

Day 19

Last night I snuck ino the girls room while they were sleeping and set up my tripod and camera. I made Sam go in and hold a light and a reflector so I could take this long exposure of them sleeping. I think this one of Lily turned out pretty well.

Monday, January 4, 2010

Day 18

Trying to learn to take pictures on white backgrounds. This one turned out okay but still have a lot to learn.

Sunday, January 3, 2010

Day 17

Since it is a new year, this is my interpretation of a new beginning, even though I've been married for fifteen years. Anyway, I hope you like it.

Saturday, January 2, 2010

Day 16

Every year I get a nutcracker for Christmas. Since money was a little tight this year, Sam gave me this cute little guy so I thought I would try and get a picture of it in front of our tree.

Day 15

This idea came from Sam's cousins daughter Kathryn who has been taking a photography class at school. We used two glow sticks and Sarah had a great time helping out. I had a hard time choosing just one so here a few images. Kathryn also helped me out with photo shop and taught me how to use a couple of new tools. Thanks Kathryn!
