Day 14

Wow, two weeks and counting. I can't believe how much I am learning, both behind the camera and in post production with Photo shop. Today we went sledding with my sister and her kids and we had such a good time. Here are a couple of my favorites from today. One is of my nephew Preston and the other one is Sarah and her cousin Carson. I had to post both pictures, they are just too cute together.

Day 13

We went out to play in the snow and shovel the walks and I had to get a few shots of Sarah trying to catch a snowflake.

Day 12

My original idea for today did not work out the way I wanted so I will save that for another time. The weather is a bit of a challenge since I'm not real eager to go outside and shoot. Instead, I went back to an assignment I had seen online about taking pictures of shoes. Sounds mundane but there were some really cool shots of shoes so I thought I would give that a try. I also wanted to try out some high key and low key shots. So here are a few of the shots I ended up with.

Day 11

I spent a good portion of the day today dropping things into this vase of water. It took awhile for me to get the set up just right but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot doing it.

Day 10

Tonight I decided to try some portraits. We have set up a little studio upstairs and I've tried a few things. My poor family gets to be the guinea pigs all the time. Here are a couple of Sam and the girls.

This last one I tried changing to a sepia tone and gave it a little bit of texture.

Day 9

Okay, back to trying to learn something new photographically. Tonight we decided to drive out to Antelope Island and try to get some pictures with the sun going down. We got out there a little later than I wanted to so the light isn't great. We did however see a coyote. One thing this project is teaching me is all the equipment that I would really like to have, like a longer zoom lens. Here are a couple of shots from tonight. By the way, it was really cold.

This photo is a little blurry. I didn't have time to grab the tripod out of the trunk. I also had to crop this down quite a bit so the quality isn't as good as I would like.

I also have a lot more to learn about Photoshop. I think given some time I could learn how to bump up the color of the sky in this photo. Maybe I will work on it and post an after picture here later.

Day 8

Merry Christmas everyone. Again, we were so busy with opening gifts and enjoying the day that I didn't really try too hard to create an artistic image. I liked this one because it's so typical of our modern age. She's already talking on a phone while driving.

Day 7

Today was Christmas Eve and I took some pictures but mostly of my family enjoying the day together. This image is more about that than trying to create a fantastic photo. But at least I took out my camera and, after all, that is part of the point of this project.
Here is our little family in our new pajamas that we opened Christmas Eve.

Day 6

We had an amazing sunset tonight. Of course when I saw it I was on the way home from the store and by the time I got home, got my camera and got to somewhere with a bit of a view the most amazing part was over. This is what I managed to capture. The crop is a little bit unusual, kind of panoramic.

Day 5

Tonight I was experimenting with some long exposures. It was a lot of fun and I couldn't decide which image I liked the best so here are a couple of them.
This first one is of our neighbors Christmas lights. The streak across the front is a car passing by just as I opened the shutter. Perfect timing.

This next one is of some lights that we have hanging in our hallway. I put it on a long exposure and then panned the camera up to get the long line of lights

Day 4

It has been quite foggy lately and the effect on the trees outside was beautiful. This is our maple tree in the backyard. Makes me grateful for a warm home.

Day 3

I remember as a child laying next to the Christmas tree and watching the lights. I still love to look at them with the rest of the lights off. We've hardly unplugged this tree since the day we decorated it. I also love to see the wonder in my childrens eyes. I wanted to take a picture that would capture some of those emotions.

Day 2

I tried my hand at a little still life. I'm not sure that I'm crazy about how it turned out but that's why I'm doing this. Live and learn.

Project 365

Welcome to my 365 photography project. I came across this suggestion on a photography website and thought it would be a great New Year's resolution. The idea is to take a photo everyday. I can't promise that every photo will be that great but I hope to push myself and continue learning as a photographer. I thought by creating a blog and telling my friends and family about it, I would feel more pressure to actually follow through. I welcome any comments or suggestions anyone might have.

I thought about waiting until January 1st to begin but then decided to start right now. There's no better time then the present so here we go.

I got my camera out tonight to take some product images for some wooden climbing bears that Sam is making to sell online. After we were done, I was coming downstairs and saw our Christmas tree so I decided to try some shots of the tree.
